Does anyone else ever struggle with a problem, post a question, then five minutes later figure it out on your own?
One of the best ways to understand something is to attempt to teach it. You need to get all the ideas very well sorted out if you are to succeed. This phenomenon is probably a version of that. In order to express the question clearly, you need to sort out exactly what the problem is; once you have done that, the answer may come easily.
