Thanks to all of you who have responded so far on this mystery! We have tried all of the suggestions. I have consulted the Microsoft Knowledge Base, as well as the microsoft MVP site. Still no luck.

Here's where we're at:
1. The "Save As" Word 6 and turning off all features introduced after Word 6 works. But this increases the size of the document from 2MB to 8MB and goofs up the auto-numbering.
2. I suspect nested tables. While following several of the suggestions, I got prompts about the new features that would result in something not appearing in the new document, and nested tables were mentioned.
3. I hate documents with lots of tables in them, and this one is almost ALL tables.
4. Deleting the graphics did not help.
5. There are styles that were defined by our vendor (ATG) and a 7.5 sized font (which I hate because it looks like Courier). I redefined all of these to use Arial.

Thoughts?
