Thanks to David Chinnell and Harry Bacheler for
responding (so promptly) to my question.

Alt-dragging does indeed allow unstructured columns of
text to be selected in Word. I think I just had it in
my head that a combination of keys would be needed
because of my vague memory of using Lotus Word-Pro
some years ago (for which I think the combination was
Ctrl + Shift). Pressing the Ctrl and Shift keys as
well as the Alt key made no difference in Word, and I
never thought to use the Alt key alone.

David, because tha tables are all different sizes it
is a little tedious to count an area in the
destination table that matches the size of the
selected text in the .txt file. But it is a good
suggestion nonetheless.

Harry, your suggested approach is working well for me
because it allows me to easily convert the .txt file
to a table with each element of the text file in a
separate cell. It is saving me a lot of time and, just
like you, I can see myself using this a LOT :-)

Once again, thanks guys,

Tom.
