Dan asked about:
<< I would like to have a watermark that shows up
*only* in the printed copies and not on-screen. <<

Don't know if this would work in Word, but I was able
to do exactly this in Interleaf, eons ago.

I placed a very large graphic (shaded word DRAFT) into
the header of the document. The on-screen rendering of
the document hid the graphic but when printing the body of the document overlayed the graphic, producing
a watermark. As part of the graphic image, I created a
tiny square that was in the corner of the header. This
allowed me to see on-screen if the DRAFT watermark was
included in the document, otherwise you couldn't tell.

Doing this in the footer proved disastrous as the
printed footer overlayed the body text, wiping out
the text. Made for some interesting effects though!

This was very successful, but I have no idea whether
this would work in any other application.

CB - sometimes I miss Interleaf, or certain features
of it anyway
