I would advice against Strucutured Framemaker. Framemaker does not have full Unicode support, which means big trouble if you intend to translate your documents. Better to use a suitable WYSIWYM XML editor that has good Docbook support - Morphon, Conglomerate, XML Mind, Oxygen, Epic Editor and the like.

Long time listener, first time caller...
Our team is considering the conversion from MS Word to
Structured Framemaker and we're currently researching
XML with the possibility of moving towards single
source documentation. In order to keep things simple,
we'd like to stick with the DocBook DTD.
The questions I have:
(1) Are there any tools available to help with the
conversion of Word files (DOC/RTF) to XML using the
