I guess you and the editors at Merriam aren't shooters. The firearms
industry and gunsmithing trade has used "accurize" for quite some time
to describe the process of adjusting or otherwise modifying a firearm
after manufacturing to tighten its tolerances and improve consistency
and accuracy beyond original factory specs. I don't know the origin
of the term, but I've seen it in books as old as pre-WWII.
