I'm going to guess that it's a reaction to the indignant responses
to Ami's original post. It causes some of us to flash back on
experiences with writers who were so in love with their words
that they couldn't bear to cut them even when faced with customer complaints about having to wade through tomes of
irrelevant material to find what they were looking for.

I have never tossed a resume based solely on its length. But
to date I have not encountered a resume longer than two or three pages that could not have addressed all the requirements in my job posting in the first two or three pages. If I reject a longer resume, it is not merely because it has more pages, but because those additional pages did not add any additional value.
If I ever receive a longer one whose first couple of pages make
me feel as if I want to read the rest, I will be sure to let all of
you know.

I'm confused, mostly by those who roundfile a long resume without
looking at it.

You aren't mandated to read the whole thing or none. If you get a
resume of five pages, read only the first two pages. If it makes you
want to read more, do so. If not, toss. Why the religious war on
resume length?
