Hello Meryl,

I have Snagit 8.x and I love it for the same reasons you enumerated.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed with 9.

The biggest issue I have with 9 is the amount of resources it takes up.
Relative to 8, I noticed a significant lag from taking a screen shot to
editing the screen. Because the things I do are so basic, what makes SnagIt
great is that it does those things simply and quickly. 9 does everything 8
does, but does it more slowly. I looked at the task manager and compared 8
and 9's memory usage. I discovered that 9 uses twice as much memory.

Now there are some caveats. I didn't use 9 extensively. I only
experimented with it for a few days, so there may be features and
functionality that make upgrading worthwhile. However, if 8 is meeting all
your needs, then I don't see the business case for upgrading to 9.

I have SnagIt 8.x (my own copy from when I was doing contracting) and so
does my current employer. I love it. SnagIt is sending email saying that I
have about two weeks left to get SnagIt 9 at a reduced price. There was a
discussion here a while ago about problems with version 9. I went back and
read the old emails and couldn't decide whether on the whole issues were
fixed and the new version was a win.

I use SnagIt for really basic things: several types of screen capture, minor
editing and trimming, maybe some callouts. I am the polar opposite of a
graphics genius and what I like about SnagIt's function is that I can do
what I need to do without getting caught up in needless complexity. Should I
upgrade? Should I encourage my company to upgrade?
