That's it exactly!

If you as a techwriter can't do your own research and learn as much as
you can about the subject matter before you start asking questions, you
aren't a good techwriter...


Or any kind of techwriter at all...If you can't or aren't willing to to
that, please get out of the field...

(Sorry, currently unemployed, looking for a job and am quite tired of
running into the perception, fueled by useless "tech writers" who have
run down the pay scale for those of us who are professionals.)
