I've never used VSS, but I can't imagine how it could be a great
resource for programmers if it makes you check files out/in one at a
time.

We use TortoiseSVN to access a Subversion repository. The engineers
download a local copy of an entire project, or maybe a branch. I
download just the portion of the directory structure containing the help
files and related stuff (we don't source-control our FM source docs,
only the files that go into the build).

After modifying any number of files (in their case, generally a handful
or two; in my case, sometimes scores), we can upload all the changes to
the repository with a single Commit command.

Neither I nor our engineers could put up with a repository that required
us to commit our changes one file at a time.

Richard
