I understand what you mean. My point is, we don't have any say in who looks at the resumes as part of the hiring decision. The employers set up the hiring process as they please. So, we need to keep in mind the idea that resumes may be seen by several people who have a variety of attitudes about how resumes "should" be done. That means, unfortunately, the farther a resume gets from the middle of the road, the more likely it is to get bogged down in someone reviewer's like and dislikes.

Sometimes a bit of visual flair can be valuable in a resume, especially in positions where they want someone who is artistic or creative. But unless you know in advance that is the case, making a resume that is heavy on the visualization can be risky. I personally think a better approach would be to have a no-nonsense resume, and if the job is one where expertise in graphics or art would be valuable, to accompany it with samples. That way the person who will supervise the work can see what the applicant can do, and if need be the samples can be kept separate so they don't become an issue for anyone else.
