I've been laid off since December. Fortunately I have been able to
take on part time contract work. And you are right, companies are
extremely picky with what they are looking for, and from what I can
tell are also very frugal about offered salaries. I've had several
balk at a number I thought reasonable (and much lower than what I'd
previously made, given the change in role).

It's a tough market. Hang in there.
