I've got to take issue with the idea of quotes being at the top. I followed the links you provided for reference, but they merely re-assert the point, rather than give any empirical or statistical evidence to show that top-quoting improves clarity, usability or readability.

My own preference is to have fresh text first, as I already know the context of the message. The exception is individual points are being made in response to separate points of my own. Even so, I only accept quoting as a practical convenience for the author. For clarity's sake, I'd prefer well-constructed and coherent paragraphs without quoting at all.

Yeah, I know that world has disappeared already, sadly... :(
