According to Wikipedia, "landline" is neither a new word nor slang; it arose
to differentiate telegraphs from undersea cables:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landline.

Reading further in the article leads to a possible solution for you: "fixed
phone line". (Although one might then ask, "was it broken before?" :-).
