I would think that this is a commercial decision that needs to be based on
your company's target audience.
If your main market is Europe, you will find that most people in the UK
would expect you to follow the Oxford Style Guide for style conventions and
Microsoft for technological conventions.
My understanding is that Chicago style is the de facto style standard in
America.
I don't know if anyone else out there is finding the Microsoft guide a bit
rigid and past its time though - I find myself looking at Apple style just
as often now.
