Two relevant points on this discussion:

* Surprisingly enough, this link showed up in my mailbox this morning:

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/allinone-guide-building-perfect-resume

It argues against one-pagers, but pretends that nobody uses longer resumes.

* As to Leonard's question about "gaps in the timeline," All of my
freelance and consulting work gets done under the auspices of ProTek
Writing Services. On the resume, like Gene, I list major clients and the
types of projects. You can find details on my LinkedIn Profiles. I love the
new "projects" element in the profile page!
