I think there is a misunderstanding here.

With a decent 3rd party virus scanner, the Opera browser (b/c they seem to
place more emphasis on security), and staying away from untested websites
and software... you have nothing to worry about with XP. It is a very
mature OS so all the major bugs and security issues were long since fixed.

Keep in mind, I am speaking of running Windows XP in the home and with
legacy hardware (b/c drivers for new hardware will not happen). XP no
longer has any business being installed in a corporate environment, unless
it is embedded or connected to a non-public network.
