Your options vary by state and by the terms of the contract you signed and include options with your state's labor commissioner and small claims court. In what state did you complete the work? In what state is the company you are working with? Did you work on site?

I have had employers and clients default. Different employers have told me they mailed my check but they had the wrong address, when I have used the same mailing address since 1989 and the employers had mailed me things before their respective defaults. Another employer said they could not pay me because their client did not pay them, while their client was defaulting for a failure they caused. I got paid on the defaults by employers. I did have to take two of them to the labor commissioner. I did not get paid for an out-of-state client because that client was not a formal employer and I would have had to sue in small claims in the client's state.

Hi All,

I was hoping to get some guidance on my contract position and not have several invoices paid. I finished the contract with the company and they are now defaulting on my last several invoices. I have emailed the accountant to ask about it and was told they are having issues with the accounting department for the company they contracted me to. At this point, I get no response from them. I contacted the personnel department and a contact I reported at the company. No response. What are my alternatives to get paid?

I will not name the companies involved at this time. I do plan on using Glassdoor to report them in the future if I don't get payment.

Thanks for any help with in advance,

Robert Courtney
