Hi Chris,

You may be overthinking this. I have several accounts, gmail and otherwise
that I pass through another gmail account for convenience and sp*m
filtering. One of these is a legacy account that I use for all my internet
purchasing, certain lists, and a few other things. Another is a gmail
account so my stuffed animals can send email to my husband. ;-). That host
gmail account has no independent public life. I use it simply as a client
for several other accounts. And when I reply to messages from any of the
other accounts I've set it up so it replies as though I'm emailing from the
original account. This is what you want to do, right?

Read in salt.morton your chris@<mydomain>.com email.
Reply as if you were writing from chris@<mydomain>.com.

You want to Check Mail, not Forward your email from chris@<mydomain>.com.
1) Turn off the forwarding, if you've initiated that from chris@<mydomain>.com.
You need to work from the salt.morton end.
2) Go to Settings>Accounts & Import>Check mail from other accounts. Do what
they ask. (I think I chose the first option for all my accounts.) I also
remember being able to specify how long email stayed in the account I was
pulling from.
3) Once this is working, go to Settings>Accounts & Import>Send mail as. You
should be able to see both salt.morton and chris@<mydomain>.com listed in
this option. Then specify chris@<mydomain>.com as the Sender for
chris@<mydomain>.com.
