I might add that in the course of a long thread, people and
their sometimes lamebrained newsreaders can make a perfect
hash of attributions, whereupon the thread digresses into an
elaborate attempt to retract, reroute, disclaim, and deny even
having read, much less made, the comments in question. There's
a time for deliberately shaving off attributions as well as a
time to put them in!

When you do elect to include attributions, especially on a
controversial subject, be *really* sure to track them down to
original sources. What you see on the screen at the moment
is a filtered, nth-generation product that might have been
accidentally or maliciously confused in God knows how
many ways.
