When in doubt, replace TM with circle-R: you can get
annoying flak from a manufacturer from failing to note that
the trademark is actually registered, but I can't imagine
anyone getting too steamed for granting a mark more
recognition/protection than it deserves. Of course, if
you've got the time, you're better off checking.

Most software lists the trademark status directly on the
packaging (on a CD-ROM or diskette, in the fine print on
the label) or in an "about this software" menu item.
Looking here could save lots of time if you're on deadline
(and aren't we all).
