That's very true and needless to say. Here's the second worst example.

In Borneo (East Malaysia) I worked for a company that was on contract to
the Malaysian National Oil Co. but couldn't get a visa for more than two
weeks at a time. Every two weeks we had to drive our 4x4 up to Brunei,
cross the border, make a u-turn, get our passports stamped and drive and
back to Miri, Sarawak. Two hours of that drive were on the beach (no
passable road).

A royal pain.

And yes. We've worked illegally, without a work permit, in many places.

I'm sorry I left that part out of the post. It never seemed important
to me; just one of the problems that were compensated for by the
excitement and pay for overseas work.

If anyone wants to read the WORST example, post me for the 3-page story
of our deportation from North Yemen for flying a group of rebels down to
the Aden border. It was under protest, and I had no choice. A chilling
experience.

Our 6-month Australian experience was spend managing the Sydney
Computerland with no work permit.

The name's familiar, Jean. Are you acquainted with Rudy Hoess, who
formerly owned the Computerland franchise? Please post us privately if
so.
