I've always believed that professionals should use the most
current tools available unless there is a very good reason not to.
That's why I think FrameMaker users should have version 5.X installed
on their system. Version 4 is ancient by industry standards and most
information we read or hear about pertains to Version 5.X. Converting
from Version 4 to 6 will not be as easy as converting 4 to 5.
Here are some of the new features in Version 5:

Easier to lay out text columns and side heads.
A paragraph, footnote, table, or anchored frame can straddle two or more columns.
You can make text "run around" graphics.
Easier positioning of anchored frames.
Import text from other documents or same document by reference;
when you update the text, it is automatically reimported.
You can join individual lines and curves.
Quick access bar (UNIX version).
You can change dpi scaling for imported bitmap graphics without reimporting.
Automatic linking for thumbtabs in indexes.
Submenus for pop-up menus. (Hypertext)
You can make titles for Hypertext alert boxes.
Links and bookmarks for Adobe Acrobat.
Support for AppleScript (Mac version).
Background processing (Mac version).
Better support for cross-platform documents, including vector graphics.
ATM fonts (UNIX version).
More and updated filters.
Etc.

Why would anyone want to use Version 4?
