If he has a PhD, he's presumably taught some comp courses.
Emphasizing that
could help. Discourage him from using his dissertation as a writing
sample & from going into a lot of detail about academic
publications. IMHO, it emphasizes a lack of relevant experience.
I've interviewed two Eng PhD's--neither could tell me what active
voice was, or the dif between active & passive. And they'd both taught
composition! (Granted, it was a pop quiz ;> )
Also, how's his computer exp?
