If you have a news reader, I recommend the various microsoft newsgroups, such as

microsoft.public.word.xxx

where xxx may be formatting or pagelayout or other topics. The news server is

msnews.microsoft.com. From there you can choose the group(s) of interest.

The MS Word "home" is

http://www.microsoft.com/MSWord/default.htm

A good starting point for some third party info on Word and the rest of the Office Suite is

http://www.wopr.com/index.html

Sorry, no answered prayers on master docs. There are ways to create a TOC or index or similar lists from "remote" files using Word's RD fields. E-mail off-list for details.
