IMHO, the "riding a bike" metaphor loses any credibility when you consider
people who are new to other occupations, such as airline pilots or brain
surgeons. Obviously writing a document is somewhere in between riding a bike
and performing brain surgery in terms of difficulty and importance, but I still
disagree that one should always be allowed or forced to make unnecessary
mistakes in order to "learn their lesson."
