In his book _Type & Layout: How typography and design can get your message
across--or get in the way_, Colin Wheildon researched readability issues
of several design principles. It has been a while since I read the book (I
loaned my copy and have not received it back), but I remember that the
research he conducted showed that serif fonts were more readable for long
text selections. I found the book quite useful and would recommend it.
