You could try Paint instead of PhotoShop. Here's what I do:

Open Paint (should be standard under Start > Programs > Accessories >
Paint)

Ctrl+PrtScn

Paste (Ctrl+V)

Click Yes when it asks you if you want to enlarge the image

Click on the rectangular/squarish Select button and select just the
portion you need

Copy (Ctrl+C)

Open a new file (File > Open > New)

Say no to saving the older version

Paste (and click Yes again if necessary)

Save as a BMP, JPG, and/or TIF

Edit in PhotoShop
