I absolutely agree. The way companies change (and are changed by outside
forces), I have to be happy with the deal I cut--I will not count on
anything as far as raises, etc. go.
In the long run, that is the best for my mental health. If I am happy with
what I have, there's no resentment and a lot of happiness if I get more,
even a little more.
And, most of the time, I have negotiated some pretty darn good deals, even
one time making a higher salary than my supervisor.
