Thanks everyone. Lots of great input.

A couple of points.

1. My outplacement coach gave me the guidance that the default interview attire for men in Silicon Valley is open collar with a sports coat, unless you know that the culture dictates something more formal, for example financial services.
2. The Web site of the company where I am interviewing has a picture of staff dressed informally.

But I think I'll take John's approach. Looking at photos of employees on LinkedIn, my sense is that a suit would be too much.

Thanks much,

Mike

That said, when I interviewed I wore a sport coat (a classic Brooks Bros. blazer), slacks and a tie. And I got the job.
