Jeanne A. E. DeVoto replied to Ivan Gelicall's question about questions by
saying

"A couple of people have mentioned, if you were interviewing with a
recruiter, the possiblity that they wanted to avoid double-submitting you.
This is a legitimate concern, but an agency should handle this by asking a
specific question (such as whether you've been presented for such-and-such a
position at such-and-such a company) before they send your resume over."

In an ideal world, this could be done. HOWEVER, a recruiter is just as
reluctant to tell you what clients they send interviewees to as you are to
tell them what companies you've submitted to.

What would happen if, let's say, the recruiter has a contract with XYZ
Company to provide ONLY candidates who have not previously submitted
resumes, and you, refusing to tell the recruiter that you've interviewed
with XYZ, lose your recruiter the contract? They won't be too happy dealing
with you in the future.

Do you expect that the recruiter will tell you "Since you won't tell me
specifically what companies you've interviewed with, why don't I get out my
trusty list, read off the names of all of the companies I'm recruiting for
so you can go there yourself, and I don't get a commission".

Of course, it doesn't always work that way, but I thought I'd give you
another perspective.

"She who has been on both sides of the desk knows ALL the sleazy tricks."
